One of my school mates, Dr. Kent Fletcher, points out that James L. Swanson on page 116 in chapter 4. "We Have Assassinated The President" within his book
Manhunt
makes the following statement:
"
Soon the wires sang back with messages...John Wilkes Booth could be heading anywhere...
To New York, disloyal capital of American commerce
...".
"Disloyal"?
For the record, New York provided more manpower, more manufacturing, and more money than any other state in Mr. Lincoln's Union, which included, but was not limited to, $35 million of the initial $50 million dollars of the "five twenties" government bonds that Lincoln's Secretary of the Treasury Salmon P. Chase issued in 1861.
