Here are a couple of photos from Art Loux (sent through Laurie).

Betty Ownsbey and Guy Moore (1983)

Ladies left to right: Janet Absher, Nancy Griffith, and Betty Ownsbey
Men left to right: James O. Hall and John C. Brennan

Janet is a former docent at the Surratt House. Nancy was a president of the Surratt Society in the 1980's. Guy Moore is the author of The Case of Mrs. Surratt: Her Controversial Trial and Execution for Conspiracy in the Lincoln Assassination.

You look fine! I probably had the same hairdo as a junior high kid in 1983!

It is nice to see who the scholars and historians talked about here are- getting the faces to the names.

You look lovely in those pics, Betty! And, yes, it's great to have some faces to put to names!

Several people who post on this forum contributed to the wonderful Surratt House pamphlet titled "A Tribute to James O. Hall - Our Teacher Our Friend." I cannot quote from all of you so I will just include here what Jane Singer wrote. I have read it over and over and over.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Great, glad-hearted, learned man
Teacher, fellow adventurer, friend.

How many rabbit holes did we scour, how many "little men and women in the great big war" did we find? How many adventures?

When I was stumped, you taught me to press on until I was breathless from the chase. But you, you knew the way, didn't you?

When I had victories or thought I had, you would listen well. "I think you've got him," you would say and my heart would do a dance.

And the miles you walked, the puzzles you solved, the mountains of evidence you compiled of pebbles and rocks long buried, thought hidden well until you plucked them and studied them and nodded, "Yes there they are."

To say I owe you a lifetime of learning packed into a few years, to say your words mattered beyond mattering, would not say enough.

Great, glad-hearted friend, know those whom you taught and advised will carry on, serving your memory, daring to follow your path.

Great, glad-hearted friend I mourn you. Sleep well.

You are 100% correct on everything Laurie.
I keep swearing that one day I'm going to write an article about all of the "Boothies" who did the hard work for us younguns. Betty, Mike, Laurie, Nancy, Joan,Mr. Hall, Mr. Brennen, Fr. Keesler, Steve Miller etc.. It need's to be DOCUMENTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(maybe Laurie can do this when she retires!) hint, hint.
