In case you haven't seen it, the June 2012 issue of The Surratt Courier has an article by our own BCorbett1865 (Craig R. Hipkins) entitled, "The Story of John Corbett; the Man Who Claimed to be Boston Corbett."

It's an excellent accounting of the attempt by the patent medicine drummer/traveling salesman, John "Bastan" Corbett, who impersonated the shooter of Booth in an attempt to cash in on the arrears pension for the real Boston Corbett.

Two comments: first, the medicine that John Corbett sold, "Gavitt's System Regulator", was essentially a laxative.

Secondly, he had close ties to Enid, OK, the town that was famous as the death place of David E. George, "the bogus John Wilkes Booth" and many writers have placed the real Boston Corbett there. Others have said that he died there; which is likewise not true. I believe that someone posted on Find-a-Grave that Boston is buried in an unmarked grave somewhere in the county. This notion is falsely founded on the "Bastan" connection to Enid.
