Nope, it's not him.

Hint #1: His middle name is Preston.

This is Trivial Trivia, so there is no question asked, but some  day you may need to know:

Col. James Madison married Eleanor Rose "Nellie" Conway.
Their son James, became President of the U. S.

He married Dorothy Dolly Payne
Their daughter Sarah "Sallie" Madison married Thomas Macon

Their son Edgar Conway Macon, married Lucy J. Johnson
He died at the First Manassas

The widow Macon
Married Charles H. Cawood

(They had a  son John Edward Cawood
born Dec 1865 in Richmond, VA)

Now, that is news you will hear only on the "Lincoln-Assassination"

Was Port Conway named for Eleanor Conway's family? I believe James Madison was born in the vicinity.

Yes, Port Conway is named for the Conway family and James Madison was born there. As you go south on Rt 301 and you reach the Rappahannock - before you cross the bridge, look to the right (there is a Church right beside the road) behind the church is Belle Grove his birthplace. The original building is gone, but it can be identified by a square depression in the ground. I think that the BERT will point it out. (Not too far away is James Monroe's birthplace and George Washington and Robert E Lee and ........ come see us.)

Laurie.  I think there is a mistake in you question, reguardless, I will hunt up a reply. As far  as I know, the house that Madison was born in - is gone. There is a "Belle Grove Association" and I have a contact but I have to find it. Maybe i can Google them. I'll get back to you.

Laurie. I misread your post. Madison was born in 1751 at "Belle Grove" - that house is gone. The second house, the one standing, was built in 1791, so it is the house that was there in 1865. Want me to find out who lived there then?   mea culpa, mea cupa, mea maxima culpa! ( I guess I am not up yet)

I think the tiny hamlet is TB, and if I'm right, Laurie prob. didn't recognize it from this angle.

In what TV series was John Surratt Jr killed by the lead character in self defense?

The actor who played John Surratt also played Miles Archer, Sam Spade's (Humphry Bogart) partner in the Maltese Falcon and...
the District Attorney prosecuting Santa Claus in Miracle on 34th St (also staring a young Natalie Wood)

John Surratt Jr was not killed on the episode of "Bat Masterson" you are referring to.  The actor you mention is Jerome Cowan.
It was Richard Boone, playing Paladin in "Have Gun Will Travel "who killed John Surratt Jr in self defense.  Surratt was played by Kent Smith who by the time he played JHS-we are told 10 years after the assassination-was a more likely candidate for Mary's Surratt's brother than her son.  For "Have Gun Will Travel"devotees the episode is called "Shadow Of A Man" Season 4,Episode 20 first aired 1/28/1961.   It is on DVD.

Given the other thread, I'll take a stab at the Parker House.

Best
