Wasn't he on "Laverne and Shirley"?

The more you know, the more you think the less you know, because you know that you don't know. The less you know the more you think the more you know, because you don't know that you don't know. (Not bad for an old dog)

Perhaps as an old man (must have aged well), but I am asking what he was doing in 1865.

Roger, I've seen that name somewhere. Was he an employee of Ford's Theater, who helped prepare the box for the president?

You are correct Joe. I only know this because I did extensive research on the flags of Fords Theater when I was a docent at the Pike County Historical Society in Milford, PA. In the trial testimony, Joseph Burroughs and Spangler were taking the partition out of the box while Harry Ford was hanging flags. Burroughs testified that a person named Skeggy worked as a stagehand.

Joe, you got it. Many kudos, as I thought this was one of the harder ones I've ever asked. Indeed he was an employee of Ford's Theatre.
From Poore, this is a part of Peanut John's testimony:
==================================
Q. When the play was going on, who was there on that side to shove the scenes, except Spangler? Anybody?
A. I think his name was Simmons.
Q. Who are the men that worked on the other side?
A. One of them is Skeggy; another is Jake; and I do not know the other fellow’s name.
==================================
This is the only reference to Skeggy that I think I have seen.
Rich, I think we were typing at the same time. I now see you got it, too. Kudos to you, too.

Thanks Roger. Those stagehands were an elusive bunch, I guess a lot like carnival carnies. Hey Rube !

Very good, Rich. That's him (the actor, not the Greenback owner).
